1. Record your CD or DVD
SuperDigital's Recording Store can sell you gizmos you need to do this!
Or we can assist by tracking or mixing your album in our studio.
2. Deal with the red tape of copyright & licensing.
You must own or control the content.
If you're performing your own music, & are using zero samples of someone else's music. you do not need to get a license from anyone!
However:
You need to submit an IPR Form with your finished master for our plant so they don't get sued by the RIAA, & indicate on it that you own the content. Download our SuperDigital Order Form which contains this stuff.
You should protect your own songs by registering with ASCAP (ascap.com), or BMI (bmi.com).
When you record someone else's song, obtain a mechanical license from the original writer(s) & publisher of the song.
Contact the Harry Fox Agency (212) 370-5330 (www.nmpa.org), or contact the song's publisher directly .
Submit a copy of your mechanical license, or proof that you have applied for it for any cover songs, with your CD or DVD master.
If you use someone else's performance, software or samples on your CD, even if your CD is not for sale, you need to get a master use license from the original artist or the artist's label, or by contacting the owner of the software for a CD-ROM, enhanced CD, or DVD.
Provide a copy of your master use license, or proof that you have applied for the master use license, with your finished CD or DVD master.
If you have images in your CD or DVD artwork that are owned by someone else, obtain rights to reproduce these materials prior to manufacturing in order to protect yourself from copyright violation.
3. Start thinking about your cover design.
Gather up artwork, photos, logos , lyrics, credits, thank you's etc., Consider handing this off to a professional graphic designer- its worth the investment! Give the designer a sample of your music plus some examples of other CD's you like.Consider the packaging options like DigiPak, standard jewelcase, card sleeves, etc.
4. See us for professional Mastering.
Record labels never release an unmastered album neither should you Mastering is more than some dude applying a $59 program on his computer. Real mastering like you get in Purple makes an audible difference.
Careful application of EQ, limiters, & such, will make your music will sound bigger, fuller, warmer, punchier, more even, & clearer.
Check out on our site Purple Mastering.
5.When ready to submit the artwork for your project printing, your designer needs to read the CD Printing requirements to accompany your art.
File for graphics can be submitted on CD or ftp'd to us. Call 503-228-2222 for info..
6. Manufacture your CD or DVD.
We coordinate all phases of manufacturing - printing the inserts, duplicating the CD's or DVD's, & package the finished product.
Delivery Dates. Altho delivery dates have to be approximate, SuperDigital is known for bending over backwards. Please, don't schedule a CD release party till you have product in your hands. Murphy's law lives.
Any number of steps in the manufacturing process can create unexpected delays.
Color Matching. All printed inserts are "gang-run". This allows us to offer printing at the lowest cost to you, but also means that exact color matching for any one job is not possible.
