Windows’ photographic backgrounds are arguably the most recognizable and nostalgic piece of the OS, so when we were tasked with launching a new category of PCs in the modern era of AI, a refresh felt necessary to appeal to brand loyalists and new audiences alike.
With that simple strategic insight, the Windows Wallpaper Expedition campaign was born.

The campaign challenged creators from seven countries to capture their homeland's most picturesque, Windows-style backgrounds using the brand new Copilot+ PCs and latest AI features from Windows 11.
With device in hand, each creator embarked on unique journeys documenting the planning, travel, capture and edit of their one-of-a-kind backgrounds—all with the help of the new Copilot+ PC.
Through a multi-part video series, fans followed along and voted for their favorite image, crowning a community-chosen winner whose photo was made available for download, solidifying their place in Windows lore forever.
